Pennsylvania’s Bucks County Animal Response Team and the Washington State Animal Response Team are the latest recipients of AKC Pet Disaster Relief trailers. The trailers, deployed as part of the AKC’s Pet Disaster Relief Program, are designed to go into disaster zones or other areas where pets may be in need of shelter or other emergency care. Each trailer is equipped with supplies to care for approximately 50 companion animals in the wake of a disaster or large scale emergency.
“The first hours following a disaster are critical, and this trailer will provide the shelter and supplies needed to care for animals and keep them safe. AKC Pet Disaster Relief trailers provide impacted areas safe and effective pet sheltering solutions, and AKC Reunite is pleased to provide communities across the nation a valuable tool during such disasters.”
— Tom Sharp, CEO, AKC Reunite
The deployment of trailers to Pennsylvania and Washington was funded through the contributions of many different companies and organizations in the respective states. Each trailer typically costs approximately $22,000 to deploy.
To date, 55 trailers have been deployed across the United States as part of the AKC’s Pet Disaster Relief program.
