Following last month’s release of a George Mason University study on the pet industry’s $221 billion economic impact, Pet Business has published a reaction from Pet Industry Joint Advisory Council‘s (PIJAC) President and CEO, Mike Bober.
In response to the findings of the study, Bober notes that “Pet power is bigger than you might think,” citing comparisons between the $77 billion Americans spent on pets in 2015 and the amount spent at the box office ($11 billion) and on daycare services ($48 billion).
“At its core, the power of the pet industry lies in how we connect people and pets. But, clearly, caring for and about pets is good for people. We create or support 1.3 million jobs and serve millions more pet lovers who are able to provide food, toys and more for their companion animals—and who enjoy the demonstrated health benefits of the human-animal bond—because of what we do.”
