Mars Petcare recently announced its official support of efforts to regulate pet food in Australia.
The announcement comes as the Australian senate recently voted to conduct an investigation into the pet food industry. This move from Australian legislators was prompted in part by an outbreak of megaesophagus that has affected over 100 dogs throughout the country.
The outbreak, which began in December of 2017, seems to have affected dogs who consumed of ADVANCE Dermocare dry dog food. While no causal connection has been made between the food and the megaesophagus outbreak, Mars Petcare Australia, maker of ADVANCE Dermocare, has since issued a precautionary voluntary recall.
