According to Pet Business, retail giant Amazon has announced plans to expand further into the online pet food market.
Amazon’s announcement was made during the Pet Industry Leadership Conference last month. The announcement comes after the company identified pet products as an area with great growth potential for the company. Amazon’s pet food sales increased by 38% in 2017 and are projected to continue growing into 2018. Its pet food sales figures for 2017, $1.4 billion, represent roughly 1/6 of all pet food sales in the United States.
Among the changes made by Amazon to better accommodate the sale of pet products is the launch of its Pet Profiles system which allows Amazon members to add information about their pets to their accounts, and changes to its warehouses to better accommodate heavy bagged goods like cat litter and dry pet foods.
