Phase three of our consumer perception research is underway, and I’m excited to announce those findings at the June 25th meeting at SuperZoo. It’s our goal that with these findings we’ll be able to finalize a marketing and communications plan that will allow us to build trust and spend our time examining important issues. Developing that credibility as a trusted resource for information and perspective will become more important as we move ahead as an industry.

The Farmer's Dog: Using Market Data For Laser-Focused PR
Here’s another great use for market research. Not only is data great for telling a story, but data is an ideal tool for focusing your product and story on your target customers’ most fervent desires and needs.
Here’s a case in point: The Farmer’s Dog, launched in 2015 by Forbes 30 Under 30 millennial founders Brett Podolsky and Jonathan Regev, has raised $10.1 million as of May 2017. The company claims to have delivered more than three million healthy meals for dogs as the latest subscription-based startup backed by Shasta Ventures, whose success stories also include Dollar Shave Club and Warby Parker.

Bees, rescued sea lions and a veterinarian whose clients’ pets all have fins are among the attractions at this year’s America’s Family Pet Expo.
The stars of the Sea Lion Splash Show are animals rescued from California and South America that perform a variety of stunts and tricks. The show provides entertainment for families and also teaches the audience a few things about the marine mammals.
AVMA Membership Surpasses 91K
Membership for the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) hit a record-high this year, with more than 91,000 veterinarians cited as association members—equating to three out of every four U.S. veterinarians.
The achievement was announced at AVMA’s board of directors meeting, held in Schaumburg, Ill., Apr. 5-6. The board also announced the results of its recent performance survey, which demonstrated an increase in member satisfaction, with more members recommending the association to veterinary colleagues.
American Kennel Club Announces 2018 Junior Scholarship Recipients
The American Kennel Club (AKC), the world’s largest dog registry and leading industry authority and advocate for dogs, announced that 23 students from 16 states have been awarded the AKC Junior Scholarship for 2018. The scholarships are offered to high school, college and graduate school students and range from $500 to $2,000.
Global Pet Expo Declared a Success
Andrew Darmohraj, executive vice president and COO of the American Pet Products Association (APPA) announced that Global Pet Expo 2018 successfully wrapped its 14th show with a record-setting size during the three-day Premier Industry Event. Global Pet Expo, presented by APPA and the Pet Industry Distributors Association (PIDA), boasted a Show Floor spanning 352,300 net square feet of exhibit space to accommodate the growing number of attendees and booths.
